It is common that whenever we enter any desired query in a search engine we get a list of web results that contain that word expression. Normally every user mostly visit only the top of the list websites. Why some websites are on the top of others in search engines? It is because of a powerful web optimization technique called Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

 It is the process of getting traffic from free and organic search results on search engines. This technique helps search engines find your  site & rank higher than other sites in response to a search query. SEO is the process of improving and marketing a website in order to increase the number of visitors to the site, received from search engines. Webmasters who are facing problems with their rankings are getting less visitors because of traditional SEO issues, but rather more essential underlying issues such as DNS, coding and redirects. History:

Web developer and content providers began optimizing sites for search engines in the mid-1990, as the first search engines was crawling the early Web. Initially, all web developers needed to do was to submit the address of a page, or URL, to various engines which was then sending a "spider" to "crawl" that page or website, extracting links to other pages from it, and then returning information found on that page to be indexed. The crawling process involves a search engine spider downloading a web page and saving it on the search engine's own server, where a second program, known as an indexer, extracts key information about the page, such as the words it contains and where these are located, as well as any weight for specific keywords, and all links the page contains, which are then placed into a scheduler for crawling and indexing at a later date.

Webmasters then started to recognize the value of having their sites better ranked and visible in search engine results, creating an opportunity for both white hat and black hat SEO professionals. According to SEO analyst Danny Sullivan, the phrase "search engine optimization" probably came into use in 1997. On May 2, 2007, Jason Gambert attempted to trademark the term SEO by convincing the Trademark Office in Arizona that SEO is a "process" involving manipulation of keywords, and not a "marketing service."

How SEO Works:

SEO takes into account what people search & how search algorithms work. All major search engines periodically change their algorithms and if we want to keep at the top, we also need to adjust our pages to the latest changes. In the last step, the search engine retrieves the results. Basically, it is simply displaying them in the browser.

SEO professionals spend a great deal of time executing tests and analyzing results to try how the search engine algorithms work. The people who have to write search engine logic are just doing the same, but they have to analyze the thought processes and turn them into a set of rules.
